2014 Undrafted Free Agent (UDFA) Commentary: Denver Broncos

Colorado State OLB Shaquil Barrett was a nice UDFA pick up–nice in the sense that he’s a perfect UDFA: Nice size, was college productive, but was shaky on most athletic measurables. He did measure as very agile within all his weaker speed-power numbers. There are red-flags, but some green-flags here…a prospect worth looking at.

Fresno State WR prospect Isaiah Burse is too small and too slow to be an impact UDFA. He won’t make it. North Dakota State’s Greg Hardin is faster than Burse, NFL-fast, but too small to have a big impact (171-pounds). Several liked Michigan State WR Bennie Fowler early in the process, but his stock faded. He’s not projecting as athletics enough to succeed in the NFL.

Denver signed Kentucky DT prospect Mister Cobble. No special note here, I just wanted to type that a person’s name was Mister Cobble (I assume that SEC + Defensive Tackle + first name Mister = he would kill me with 1/2 a punch…so just havin’ fun Mr. Cobble). If he is turned away by Denver, I think a shoe repair business is in order. Had to do it. I could have gone ‘he is a shoe-in for the NFL’, but I won’t…I’ll hold my tongue (one more shoe pun).

Colorado State RB prospect Kapri Bibbs, and his 31 rushing TDs in 2013, is getting a shot with the Broncos. I’d keep an eye on him. He may push past C.J. Anderson, and potentially become the Montee Ball backup. You can read a 1,000+ word analysis of Bibbs on CFM.

Tulane FS Jordan Sullen has a profile that might work as a CB: 5’10.5″ and 200-pounds, a 4.6+ 40-time, but nifty agility metrics.

UNC QB Bryn Renner will not be a starting QB in the NFL. He’s a quality guy, and probably can catch on as a 3rd-stringer. You can read a 1,200+ word analysis of Renner on CFM.
