Tajh Boyd, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Tajh Boyd is a 2014 NFL Draft dilemma. Nice college numbers and above-average mobile, but is a shorter QB prospect with suspect passer abilities. There is a scenario where we think specific teams should ‘reach’ for Boyd in this draft, while others should stay far away. Zach Mettenberger, QB | The CFM Draft Report

There is no other way to say it: Zach Mettenberger is an NFL bust waiting to happen. Our numbers are pretty clear that trouble is lurking, but watching his game tape is tell-tale as well. He’s tall and played at LSU…two things that make draft analysts swoon. There is much more beneath the surface here. He is not a ‘sleeper'; he is more of a high-probability, future disappointment. I cannot believe there are not more draft dissenters here, but currently there is a ton of draft love going his way. Kenny Guiton, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Can a QB who was never named a true starter for his college team for his entire career, and who only had a chance to start three games (due to Braxton Miller injury) actually be a viable QB prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft? Matt Cassel college-to-pro comparison aside–we think there is something a little intriguing here to debate and discuss. More than I thought there would be until I started studying it. Read about the radical QB comparison (not Matt Cassel) that we make with Kenny Guiton, and what his NFL prospectus looks like in our scouting models with our 1,200+ word scouting report. Stephen Morris, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Stephen Morris has been the starting QB for the Miami, Fla. Hurricanes for the past two seasons. He has been a QB that has mostly flown under the national radar for name recognition. However, he has impressed ESPN enough to be their current #10 ranked QB prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft. Should Morris be rated a little higher…or a lot lower? We have a very definitive answer to that question in our full scouting report of Stephen Morris. Click the link below.

Connor Shaw, QB | The CFM Draft Report

If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? If a QB on an SEC team throws for 24 TDs (and rushes for six more TDs, and catches another) and has only one interception for an 11-2 team…will anyone notice? How is it that we know where Johnny Manziel partied at two weeks ago, but are not sure Connor Shaw is an actual person in the 2014 NFL Draft? Read our 1,200+ word scouting report on the intriguing, perplexing QB prospect from South Carolina by clicking the link below.

Blake Bortles, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Blake Bortles is the “it” QB for the NFL Draft in early January 2014. He is a QB prospect who was sitting closer to a #10 ranked QB prospect than a top-3 one in December 2013, until he had a nifty Bowl game against Baylor. One good-great performance watched by many can change the world. Bortles looks the part: physically big/thick, strong arm, fairly mobile. He is a QB dream come true! Except he isn’t. Many are comparing him to an Andrew Luck-lite type, but we see a much different NFL comparison. Click the link below to see our full, 1,000+ word scouting report on Central Florida’s Blake Bortles.

Teddy Bridgewater, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Teddy Bridgewater is the #1 ranked QB prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft for most every mainstream scouting service. I actually think there is one QB who might be better, and it’s a QB no one else has near #1. We have scouted Bridgewater in 2012 and 2013, and he has come up excellent each time. However, we think there is a potential problem to consider. Click the following link to see what that issue is, and to read our full scouting report.

Aaron Murray, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Aaron Murray had a tremendous college career at Georgia. He was a four-year starter, and threw for 121 TDs/41 INTs over his career. He is the kind of QB that NFL Draft analysts fall in love with, but our computer scouting models see a different picture. Read our full scouting report on Aaron Murray by clicking the link below.

Johnny Manziel, RC Fischer’s Scouting Report

I thought there would be much more 50/50 debate among NFL Draft analysts on this, but from what I’ve seen early on the mainstream is completely onboard with Johnny Manziel as an NFL star, and as a likely high draft pick. Football fans appear to be jaded into one of two camps: (1) CON: Don’t like the dude’s persona, so don’t like the player. (2) PRO: “Did you see that crazy play where he jumped and bounced off the pile, and scrambled away and threw a TD…that guy is sick!” We think that the proper scouting boils down to one central reason why Manziel is NOT likely to succeed in the NFL, and it’s not because of his character or size (but neither of those attributes helps his case). To see why our computer scouting models are against Manziel as a high draft pick, and to read our full statistical scouting report of his NFL chances, click the link below.

Dustin Vaughn, QB | The CFM Draft Report

Dustin Vaughan is not listed in any (that I’ve seen) top-25 QB prospect listing (in early January). For many evaluators, he is an unknown and unlisted. We think that is a major mistake. This is a name you have to know. Vaughan should be a name that NFL Draft evaluators generate a little “buzz” with, but since he did not play in the SEC he doesn’t really exist in the mainstream draft analysis . . . Yet. Find out what I am hinting about; read our 1,500+ word scouting report and statistical evaluation of West Texas A&M QB Dustin Vaughan for the 2014 NFL Draft.
