More Non-Concern About Eric Ebron’s Drops…

Twitter @CFBMetrics

How many times will people ‘not being concerned about Eric Ebron’s drops’ be a story this preseason? I think somewhere Stephen Hill right now is going, “Man, that Ebron guy has a serious issue with drops!

If you studied Ebron’s tape in college, and compared that to his flimsy production numbers…you would have been pretty concerned.

If you went to his Pro Day to watch his drops-fest…you’d be even more concerned.

If you’ve been attending Detroit Lions OTAs and training camp, you would see some more ‘drops’ action.

…but “There’s nothing to see here. Keep movin’. All is well.” How many more ‘drops’ stories will there be before someone does get concerned? Answer: The football media won’t. They signed off on this guy as Jimmy Graham 2.0, and thus they are going to circle the wagons to push the ball down the road so you will forget about it. Buckle up for a ton of ‘rookies be rookies’ softball pieces, and more “Hey, he’s standing up. He’s just like Jimmy Graham!” orgasms. The ‘drops’…not a concern, though.

Our computer scouting models tried to warn you, Detroit. When no else is would. The piper is about to get paid.

Ravens Rookie WR: Michael Campanaro Notes…

Twitter @CFBMetrics

There are two articles below, I thought you might find interesting…for those have been following our scouting of Wake Forest WR prospect, now Ravens rookie draft pick Michael Campanaro. I’m already, publicly on record as saying he is one of the most talented possession WRs in the 2014 NFL Draft class…and is wildly underrated by scouts and fans alike.

Whether he makes an impact in year-one is whole other story…

2014 NFL Draft Scouting Report: WR Sammie Coates, Auburn

Twitter @CFBMetrics

NFL Draft (2015): Statistical Analysis of WR Sammie Coates, Auburn

Sammie Coates was not in Mel Kiper’s top-5 junior WR prospects for 2015 (in June 2014). Most websites show Sammie Coates pretty much out of the top-10 ranked WR prospects analysts are looking at going into mid-2014, with a view ahead on the 2015 NFL Draft. Ummm, I think that game is going to be changing soon. Read our 900+ word scouting report on Auburn WR Sammie Coates by clicking the following link:

An OTA Note on 2014 Rookie TE Blake Annen, Philadelphia Eagles

Twitter @CFBMetrics

You get several items in this Eagles OTA summary (below). You get the rarity that is the Nick Foles interception (actually two of them), and an update on a top-rated Safety prospect for us from 2013 (Earl Wolff), but also 2014 rookie news on Cincinnati TE prospect Blake Annen. Warning: It’s a little unflattering.

We’re watching Annen’s development. He is in the argument as the most athletic TE prospect of 2014 (it wasn’t a great year…), but is suspect on hands and receiver skills. This note is not settling on that front.

2014 Dynasty Rookie Draft Rankings Version 5.0 (Top-150+) *Includes IDP

2014 Dynasty Rookie Draft Rankings (5.0) *Includes IDP

Our top-50 prospects for the 2014 Dynasty Rookie Draft has turned into 150+ players listed. In this version, we have one prospect dropping out of the top-10. Prospects making bigger moves (up or down) in Version 5.0: Antonio Andrews, Blake Annen, Jace Amaro, Shaq Evans, Allen Robinson, Ryan Grant, Robert Herron, Cody Hoffman, Daniel McCullers, Kevin Norwood, Richard Rodgers, Charles Sims, Telvin Smith, Eric Swoope, De’Anthony Thomas, Brock Vereen.

In recent 2014 Dynasty Rookie Drafts, the prospects that are moving up and down the most this past week (from prior four-week trend):

RISING: Jordan Matthews, Philadelphia – This train is starting to leave the station in a big way. He rarely appeared in a top-5 (outside of a CFM/FFM user) of any Dynasty Rookie Drafts in June and early-July, but I have seen him go #3 and #4 in a few drafts the past week. He’ll never break the mainstream’s locked and loaded 1-2 punch of Watkins-Evans, but he is becoming the ‘it’ player now at #4 or #5. His ‘mode’ (remember mean, media, and mode?) is pick #6 or #7 in real and mock drafts.

FALLING: Davante Adams, Green Bay – Once a riser as the James Jones replacement, the football media is chopping his legs out with ‘drops’ whispering from the Packers’ OTAs. I can remember all football analysts being concerned about Jordan Matthews’ supposed drops as well last year at Vandy…except it was overblown. All it takes is one person to say something, and the game of ‘telephone’ begins. The Dynasty Rookie Draft loser in ‘telephone’ right now is Davante Adams. He had become a top-12 in the Dynasty Rookie Draft, and was moving into the top-10…but now his ‘mode’ is him being taken #13 or #14.
