I Tried To Warn You On Eric Ebron…

Twitter @CFBMetrics

I try not to get too worked up, pro or con, by anything I read from OTA camp observations from beat writers. Their batting average on correctly seeing something that then plays out as predicted in the regular season is not a good number.

However, when I read this series of notes (link attached below), I was struck because (a) I am hearing it from multiple sources (yes, I have sources), and (b) It falls in line with what our computer models foretold many months ago. Enjoy your ‘next Jimmy Graham’ or ‘next Vernon Davis’ or whatever bag of beads you are being sold. Bullet #3 is what you should be looking at.

My new ‘catchphrase': “Not every TE that stands up occasionally is the next Jimmy Graham.” It’s lengthy, but…

An Interesting Piece on the Browns’ Future Franchise QB Not Named Manziel…

Twitter @CFBMetrics

This is a nice piece (below) on the Cleveland Browns’ diminutive, highly-mobile, future franchise QB…Connor Shaw. You probably think I am joking…I am mostly not. I wouldn’t bet on it, because this is the same NFL franchise that took Johnny Manziel on purpose. I’ve said it, and written it, dozens of time this year: Connor Shaw is the Bizarro world version of Johnny Manziel…the anti-Manziel. He’s even classy enough to speak well of Johnny Football when asked in this piece.

I also encourage you to re-read our 1,000+ word scouting report on Connor Shaw on College Football Metrics.com, and follow his Fantasy Football projections at Fantasy Football Metrics.com.

Will the #2 Draft Pick, Greg Robinson, Have an Impact On the Rams Running Game?

Twitter @CFBMetrics

One of the potential fears with the Rams OG/OT Greg Robinson, looks like it might be coming true early on. I am tee-ing this story (below) up to plug taking a second-look at our scouting report on Greg Robinson heading into the 2014 NFL Draft, because some of the fate of Zac Stacy, Tre Mason, and Benny Cunningham’s 2014 output is riding on how talented/impactful Robinson will be right away…or not.

NFL Draft 2014 Scouting Report: WR Tevin Reese, Baylor

Twitter @CFBMetrics

NFL Draft 2014: Statistical Analysis of WR Tevin Reese, Baylor

We’re re-looking at Tevin Reese’s profile for a specific reason…because our computer scouting models clamored for us to do so. Originally, I didn’t pay Tevin Reese much mind. His profile was showing: tiny (163-pounds) speedster in a college offense that pumps output numbers and highlight reels. However, we think there is something to be further discussed and examined on Tevin Reese. It’s possible, Reese could be one of the top 10-15 WR prospects in this draft, but there is ‘what ifs’ to consider. An Interesting Web Chat Note on Patriots Rookie RB Stephen Houston…

I caught this little Stephen Houston blurb (below) in Mike Weiss’s Patriots chat. Houston fans, like me, might be interested in this little nugget…

From ESPN New England:

Question:  Will (NYC)
Thanks for the chat Mike. Two quick things; what kind of role does James White project to? Seems like we need depth in the Ridley power back role, and White ran between the tackles a bit in college, but BB compared him to Vereen. I figure he’s somewhere in between the two. If coaches see him more as a Vereen type, is Michael Bush still a possibility for depth? Also, why are you posting comments on the blog from Bill Polian about building depth? Mr. 2-14 knows nothing about that topic!
Answer: Mike  (1:11 PM)
Will, I’m still getting a feel for White. Initial impressions would be that he falls more into the “passing back” category with Vereen. Then you put Ridley and Bolden into more of the “big back” category. At this point, I’d be surprised if they go with Bush. While he’s a bigger back in terms of size, I’m not sure they view him as “big back” in terms of the way he runs. That’s why I have my eyes on undrafted free agent Stephen Houston from Indiana. 230 pounds. Sort of liked what I heard from him last week.

An Interview Snippet on Jeremy Gallon WR New England

Twitter @CFBMetrics

A quick note (below), that I thought was interesting on Pats 7th-round draft pick Jeremy Gallon. I’d like to love Gallon’s NFL prospects in 2014 a little more, but the Pats WR depth chart is so loaded right now.

Tom Savage Observations From OTAs…

Twitter @CFBMetrics

An interesting note on Tom Savage buried in the article attached (below). More and more stories are popping up that Savage is being given a fair shake at the starting job. We made our scouting stance known on Savage all through the pre-Draft process, but I didn’t think he’d have a chance at starting opening day…I could be wrong.

OTA Blurb on Cowboys Future ‘#2′ WR Devin Street…

Twitter @CFBMetrics

Attached (below) is a positive note/observation on Pitt WR prospect Devin Street from the recent Cowboys OTAs. We graded Street as an above average WR, with an upside to a higher level. It won’t be long before Devin Street bumps Terrance Williams, perhaps sooner than we thought…
